Two Peas In A Pod

Recently, we found this picture of my grandmother, Beauton, as a little girl. Since Hanan was born we have constantly heard comments about how Arleigh looks just like Ray but who does Hanan look like. Well, we’ve decided that we might know where her big eyes come from now. Clearly they aren’t identical but there is some resemblance. Finally, there will be no need for milk man comments. It’s hard to know how old Gran might be in that picture. Her name was on the back but no date. I had some fun looking for a picture of Hanan from what might be the same age. Most of our pictures have both Arleigh and Hanan in them. Because I wasn’t sure how old Gran was, I have a picture of Hanan at 4 with Arleigh, Kase and Kendall and a picture of Hanan at around 22 months. Finding pictures of Hanan by herself proved to be difficult. Most of the time our pictures have both girls. Then Hanan went through a stage where she was always in the place that she shouldn’t be. We couldn’t see her face in our pictures because she had managed to get herself stuck. Better yet, she would be crying in the picture because she knew she was busted for being on a table, in a cabinet, in a suitcase, etc. She’s still accident...

Back To School

Yesterday we were at Camp Idlewild to swim. Today, school is back! Poor Hanan, last year I cried when I dropped Arleigh off. This year, there is so much going on… Hanan was somehow on a bus schedule instead of parent pick up, I was worried with paperwork and didn’t have time to get upset. Both girls were really happy about school. Hanan is finally in kindergarten. This is the first year that she’s been gone every day. Arleigh made the leap to first grade and all day at school. We kept waiting for some sort of nervous reaction about being at school all day or paying for her lunch. It never happened. She seemed to be more concerned for Hanan finding Mrs. King and room #7. She took Hanan to her class. According to Hanan, Arleigh’s teacher, Mrs. Eavey, welcomed Arleigh to school. Arleigh said that she needed to help her sister but she would be right back. I hope one day that realize what champions they have in each other. Hanan returns the favor often by killing bugs for Arleigh or trying to determine how scary things might be. Hanan also started piano today. Unfortunately I don’t have pictures. Our camera isn’t working when you need a flash. She was great. She wanted to write all her answers in her theory book instead of talking with her...

32 Weeks And Counting…

I’ve hit the 32 week mark. Bria is right around the corner. So far, so good… I think after all the problems with Hanan we keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. It hasn’t. Brian (Ned’s oldest) and Kelly have decided to get married the first weekend in November so there’s alot of pressure on Bria to at least be on time. No, I am not planning on attending that wedding with a days old baby. Grandma would like to be there. She’ll be here to help with Bria. Ray is back in Panama. We get to talk to him for about 5 minutes every day. He’s having fun with another exercise there. He’ll be Maryland for a week when he gets back. His only other exercise before Bria is in Suffolk so he should be home every night. She is going to have to hold out until at least the second week of Oct. Any time after that and we’ll be happy. The girls are getting ready to go back to school. Arleigh will be in school all day for the very first time. I am suffering more than she is. She’s very excited. Open house is tonight. We’re going to go and try to figure out the new lunch system. Hanan will be in the same morning class that Arleigh was in last year. We love...

Jake’s Shark

We have some very good friends who had to move up north. (Shutter the thought!) Anyway, their son, Jake has always loved animals. When Jake was two he taught me things about animals. Clearly, he has a calling as you can see from these pictures. The Ericksons went to the beach this week. A shark had washed up on the shore. Jake, AKA the shark whisperer, saved it by throwing it back. According to his mom, Kristin, Jake says it was quite heavy. I do have to worry about Hanan picking up turkeys. I don’t think even she would pick up a...

One Very Wild Weekend

We are slowly getting back to our routine. Ray has even found time to almost finish Bria’s room. The rest is probably up to me. That would mean fixing the bedding, curtains and general decorating. I have less than nine weeks left, so hopefully, I’ll get it done. He replaced a window on the second story by himself. He’s so handy, I think I’ll probably keep him around. Anyway, in between all the renovations, we managed not one but two trips to the zoo this weekend. On Friday a small group of Moms from our church met with kids in tow to tour the zoo. There were 4 families and a total of 9 kids if you aren’t counting Bria. I could count her now. I felt like I was wagging an extra baby the whole time. Anyway, the girls had a great time. Some new exhibits opened. There are three new kangaroos and a red panda. We saw it all. We finished with a dip in the zoo fountains. That’s Arleigh’s favorite part. Hanan had fun running and screaming but she never really gets that wet. On Saturday we climbed out of bed and went back to the zoo for Breakfast With the Animals. It was our first time fighting the crowd. It wasn’t so bad. The food wasn’t wonderful. That was probably a good thing. Watching some...
